    Rigging up day observation posts, also to be used for sentry posts during a bombardment.

    Friday 18th Feb
    Completed fort in Ravine No. 4. Bomb proof, but wants a little barbed wire.

    Sunday 20th February
    Reported at Bde HQ for 3 week’s instruction in Staff Works. At Bde. During day, back to the Coy each evening.

    Monday 21st
    Read thro’ office files.

    Tuesday 22nd
    Rode round line with Genl Cooke, visited 11th RWF.

    Wednesday 23rd
    11 RWF, 7 SWB line with Brigadier.

    Thursday 24th
    Out with Bgdr, 2nd line.

    Decent week, everyone jolly good. Major Bailey sick in bed, evacuated during the week.

    Working with Kennedy, at all papers etc. G + [Q?] since Bde Major away.

    Useful office work.
    With G + Q [branches?] since Maj Bailey sick.

    Bde relieved by 66th [BR?].

    Office work. Useful but getting a bit dry.

    Monday 13th March
    Back for duty with the Bn, Manchester Plateau. Working on [Sangar?] + Com[?] trench on 2nd line – Cheshire’s old work.

    Tuesday 14th
    Working on [Sangar?].
    Lectured Coy in evening.

    Wednesday 15th
    Miserably wet misty day. Concealment of Sangar by wire netting + holly bushes + stones.

    Thursday 16th

    Friday 17th
    Bn moved camp. A + D Coys below 66th [?] on road overlooking Gradabor. B + C at Gorgerd – North Rd junction. Spent day in pitching + tidying up camp.

    Saturday 18th
    Left in camp with 40 men to clean up + beautiful, all kinds of decorations round tents + paths marked out etc. Pretty camp.
